- Promotes the development of a scientific body of knowledge related to the psychological, social, and vocational aspects of spinal cord injury, adjustment to spinal cord injury, and programmatic and therapeutic interventions for individuals with spinal cord injury.
- Encourages studies addressing relevant issues in the psychosocial care and treatment of SCI.
- Identifies priorities and directions for research in the field of spinal cord injury for submission and approval of the Board of Directors.
- Promotes and funds original research in spinal cord injury related to psychological, social, and vocational outcomes, issues and needs.
- Provides research consultation to members of the Association.
- Maintains a professional peer review panel. Reviews credentials of prospective peer reviewers.
- Collaborates with other organizations funding spinal cord injury research.
