Dear AASCIPSW Member:
The Nominating Committee is now seeking candidates from the membership who are interested in running for the Board of Directors or would like to serve on a committee. Our organization is driven by volunteers like you, and now more than ever, we need the best leaders we can find to help the organization evolve and retain its vital role in providing education and support for each of us as we provide services, conduct research, etc. for persons with spinal cord injuries and their families. Serving on the Board or on a committee, in addition to helping to support the infrastructure of the organization, is a great way to grow in terms of leadership skills and experience, and incidentally develop contacts and friendships important to you personally and professionally. The current vacancies on the Board and committees, as well as qualifications to serve, follow.
Board of Directors
There will be four vacancies on the Board as of the August 2008 meeting. A term of office is three years. Qualifications to serve on the Board include: (1) active membership status for at least 2 years, (2) demonstrated interest in spinal cord impairment, (3) commitment to the goals of the Association, (4) current clinical, research or academic activity in SCI, (5) satisfactory participation on an AASCIPSW Committee, or similar activity. In addition, Board Nominees shall meet at least one of the following criteria: (1) have presented at the AASCIPSW Annual Conference, or (2) be a leader in the field of SCI, or (3) be an AASCIPSW Award recipient.
The Nominating Committee will convene a teleconference in February to review the Nomination Applications and select nominees to be placed on the ballot. A ballot will be mailed to the voting membership by March 1, 2008. Newly elected Board Members will be notified by May 2008 and will assume their positions at the close of the Annual Business Meeting in August 2008.
Committees
By design via our By-Laws, there are vacancies every year on each of our committees, which include Clinical Practice, Electronic Communications, Membership, Program, and Research. Qualifications to serve as a Committee Member include: (1) member in good standing, (2) commitment to the goals of AASCIPSW and the committee of interest, (3) demonstrated interest in spinal cord impairment and (4) specific qualifications unique to a particular committee. To learn more about the responsibilities of each committee, visit our webpage at www.aascipsw.org and look under Committees. Appointees will be chosen by the Committee Chair and Board Liaison to that Committee, based on expressed interests and experience, with the approval of the Board of Directors. New committee members will be notified by May 2008 and will assume their positions at the close of the annual business meeting in August 2008.
If you are interested in serving on the Board or being appointed to a committee, please submit a completed Letter of Interest to the Administrative Office by February 15, 2008. Letters may be submitted via mail or electronically to Sara Lerman, AASCIPSW Program Manager, at
